So You Would Like to be a Princess . . .
The Kalama Fair Princess Program is open to Kalama area girls in 7th through 11th grade that have lived within the Kalama area and/or attended the Kalama School District for one year.
There are many activities involved in being a princess, and you and your family must be 100% committed to being a Fair Princess and be willing to spend the time and effort on the required Fair activities. This commitment includes the participation of parents at ALL Fair Princess functions, but can include other adult family members when the parents are not available.
What Does It Cost?
The fundraising activities help cover the cost of the outfits worn on the float and the beautiful dresses worn at coronation. If selected to be a princess, the outfit worn when she receives her crown in February or March is provided by the family of the princess. The family is also responsible for providing transportation to the various events. The main cost for the family of a princess is the time commitment.
The main "princess season" is March through mid-July. The level of activity will be lower during March and April and will gradually increase. The Princesses earn participation points, and should plan on a total commitment to being a Princess.
What Are the Benefits of Being a Princess?
The Princesses learn organizational skills, knowing when and where to be, in addition to having the necessary Princess items with them. The girls also learn what it is like to serve the community. At some events their role is to serve others. The Princess Court has the opportunity to attend events and do activities they normally would never experience.
Past Princess Courts have enjoyed making new friends with each other. The Princesses are in competition with each other, and yet spend alot of time doing things together. A key to being a successful Princess is to enjoy each step of the process - have fun at each event - and enjoy the experience.
Of course there are prizes - and the Fair Court Manager gives out lots of goodies to her Princesses. At Fair Coronation, every girl truly looks like a Princess. It is an amazing process to watch - from when the girl first receives her crown in March to the Princess (and possibly Queen!) she has become in July.
