PRINCESS COURT HISTORY AND
KALAMA FAIR HISTORY

The Strawberry Festival originated in 1939 as a community celebration for the large population of Finnish people and the abundant commercial strawberry fields in the area.

After the Strawberry Festivals stopped being held, a Sweetheart Program was held at the Kalama High School.

The Kalama Community Fair was officially recognized in 1965 by the Washington State Fair Association and became a true annual event for Kalama.

The Queen's robe and antique crown now used by the Kalama Community Fair were first used for the Strawberry Festival and later for the Sweetheart Program.

There is alot of tradition in the Coronation Ceremony.  The robe and page outfits are the same ones used in the Strawberry Festival in the 1940s!

The Queen's antique crown was created by a local jeweler years ago.
